Volleyball Game Preview: Westlake Thunder vs. Lehi Pioneers

Westlake is on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Lehi is on a six-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Thunder will host the Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Westlake won the last time they faced American Fork, and Talon Schank did his part to make sure it happened again. The Thunder put the hurt on the Cavemen with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday thanks in part to Schank, who had 16 digs and one assist. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last ten games he's played.

Westlake's got stronger as the match went on, holding American Fork to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-23, 25-14.

Meanwhile, Lehi faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Pioneers came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 3-1.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18.

Westlake has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Lehi, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.

Westlake skirted past Lehi 3-2 when the teams last played last Wednesday. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Pioneers' Ty Reynolds, who had 66 assists and 12 digs.
