Murrieta Mesa (Murrieta, Calif.) saw its 13-point lead shrink to seven, but hung on to defeat
Tahquitz (Hemet, Calif.) 13-6 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Luke Hutchison in the second quarter, the Rams led 3-0 at the half.
Murrieta Mesa grew its lead to 13 points entering the fourth quarter. MM scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Chandler Woodward.
Tahquitz's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by
Fernando Blanco in the fourth quarter.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 48-15 win for the Murrieta school.
The defeat comes as a step back for Tahquitz, who notched a 42-20 victory over Vista del Lago in its previous outing. With the win the Rams extended their winning streak to three games.
Murrieta Mesa (3-0) will play a non-conference game against Citrus Valley next week, while Tahquitz (1-1) will take on La Sierra also in a non-conference game.
