Preview: Southeast Halifax Trojans vs. Tarboro Vikings
Two dominant backs in Jamereius Hudson and Kamerin Mcdowell-moore are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Southeast Halifax Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Tarboro Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Southeast Halifax will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Tarboro is ranked 56th).
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Southeast Halifax had no problem doing just that on Friday. They snuck past North Duplin with a 26-21 victory. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Southeast Halifax was the better team in the second half.
Southeast Halifax can attribute much of their success to Trayvese Silver, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 164 yards and a touchdown while completing 85.7% of his passes. Hudson and his 100 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Southeast Halifax's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding North Duplin to a paltry 249 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Southeast Halifax's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out 11 times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Meanwhile, Tarboro put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They beat Northampton County by the very same score they won with last week: 48-0. The result was nothing new for Tarboro, who have now won nine games by 27 points or more so far this season.
Tarboro can attribute much of their success to Mason Satterfield, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and Mcdowell-moore, who rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Satterfield was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Caiden Everette, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
The win makes it two in a row for Southeast Halifax and bumps their season record up to 10-2. As for Tarboro, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Southeast Halifax commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Tarboro struggles in that department as they've been even better at 6.7 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
Southeast Halifax was taken down by Tarboro 48-0 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Southeast Halifax, Trevon White (who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only six carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
