Basketball Recap: Heritage Academy Takes a Loss

Heritage Academy was the 49-46 winner over Veritas Prep when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Heritage Academy Heroes lost 73-47 to the Veritas Prep Falcons on Tuesday. The Heroes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage Academy lost, don't look at Danye Sypho. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 11 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. That was a full 34% of Heritage Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Malik Sneed also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Veritas Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Perry, who went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points along with seven assists and six boards. Another player making a difference was Will Barrett, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Heritage Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-8. As for Veritas Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.

Heritage Academy will head out to face off against Arizona Lutheran Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Heritage Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season. As for Veritas Prep, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Veritas Prep Falcons face off against the NFL Yet Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Veritas Prep also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 53 points per game.
