Baseball Recap: Berkeley Prep Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Berkeley Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Northside Christian Mustangs. This was payback for the Buccaneers, who suffered a 9-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jett Walters made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Herrmann, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Riley Zinober was another key player, scoring four runs.

Berkeley Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Northside Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8.

Looking ahead, Berkeley Prep will challenge Carrollwood Day at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Carrollwood Day's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Berkeley Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Northside Christian, they will head out to challenge St. Petersburg Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
