Baseball Recap: Wilkes-Barre Has No Trouble Against Dallas

Wilkes-Barre made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dallas, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolfpack's pitcher stepped up to hand the Mountaineers an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Wolfpack this season.

James Bottger was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Howe, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Tyler Daugherty also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Wilkes-Barre always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wilkes-Barre's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Dallas, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilkes-Barre will square off against Berwick at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolfpack are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Dallas, they will face off against Wyoming Valley West at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Mountaineers surely won't give up without a fight.
