Baseball Recap: South Houston Takes a Loss

The matchup between South Houston and Alvin on Saturday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The South Houston Trojans came up short against the Alvin Yellowjackets, falling 15-4. The Trojans have struggled against the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meetings.

South Houston saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Salinas, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1. South Houston is 2-1 when Salinas posts two or more runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Jacolby Mayberry was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

South Houston's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Alvin, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season.

While South Houston had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
