Baseball Recap: Del Mar's Losing Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Mar). They put the hurt on the MacDonald Condor with a sharp 20-12 win on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dons as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Mason Williams and Manny Villarreal were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Williams struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Villarreal pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Williams scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Villarreal scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Williams also brought in three RBI, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brandon Avery and Lukas Nguyen did most of the damage at the plate: Avery scored three runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while Nguyen scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. That's the most runs Nguyen has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyle McClements, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-6.

Del Mar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as MacDonald only managed eight hits.

Del Mar's record is now 2-9. As for MacDonald, their record is now 1-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Del Mar will challenge Piedmont Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Del Mar's pitchers better be ready for this one: Piedmont Hills has averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for MacDonald, they will take on Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something MacDonald surely won't give up without a fight.
