Basketball Recap: Taylor Smith and Justice Alexander Secure Win for Concord Academy

Concord Academy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 55) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Myers Park Mustangs, sneaking past 35-33. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Mustangs are ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Concord Academy was led to victory by Justice Alexander and Taylor Smith. Alexander posted 13 points and six rebounds, while Smith had 12 points in addition to six boards and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Alexander has scored at least a third of Concord Academy's points.

Concord Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Concord Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Myers Park, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Concord Academy and Shining Star Sports Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Shining Star Sports Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Concord Academy likes a good challenge. As for Myers Park, they will head out to take on Ballantyne Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
