Softball Game Preview: Cresskill Cougars vs. Hawthorne Bears

The Cresskill Cougars will face off against the Hawthorne Bears at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hawthorne's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Saturday: Cresskill hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand Garfield an 11-0 shutout on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Boilermakers: they've now won three in a row.

Cresskill got a massive performance out of Julia Couch, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Couch a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Simonneta, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Hawthorne made sure to put some runs up on the board against Elmwood Park on Friday. The Bears put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 13-3 win.

Hawthorne's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Cresskill, their win bumped their record up to 17-6.

Cresskill might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Hawthorne in their previous matchup back in April of 2017. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
