Baseball Recap: Cardinal Newman Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Cardinal Newman had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vero Beach Indians.

Cardinal Newman got a good showing from Max Gonzalez, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Cardinal Newman saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Elliot, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Vero Beach beat Cardinal Newman by a score of 11-2 on Wednesday.
