Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Beats Chaparral for Their Third Straight Win

Notre Dame Prep posted their closest win since March 17th on Friday. They skirted past the Chaparral Firebirds 3-1. The victory was nothing new for the Saints as they're now sitting on three straight.

Ashton Higgins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Notre Dame Prep: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 6-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jace Terry, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Boeding, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Notre Dame Prep pushed their record up to 8-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Notre Dame Prep will square off against Salpointe Catholic at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lancers will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chaparral, they are taking a road trip to take on Saguaro at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
