Basketball Recap: Paris Autry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Overhills over Westover

After flying high against Western Harnett last Tuesday, Overhills came back down to earth. The Overhills Jaguars fell to the Westover Wolverines 45-40. The Jaguars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolverines earlier this season, when they won 69-47.

Overhills' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paris Autry, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Unique Cooke, who posted six points along with 15 boards and six blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ja?Naisha Carney, who had seven points and three steals. Carney has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played. Tytiana Dowden was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Overhills' defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Westover, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-9.

Overhills didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-49 loss against South Central on the 1st. As for Westover, they will head out to challenge Terry Sanford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Terry Sanford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Westover likes a good challenge.
