Basketball Recap: Thornwell Saints vs. Abbeville Panthers

After flying high against GREEN Upstate last Tuesday, Thornwell came back down to earth. The Thornwell Saints fell just short of the Abbeville Panthers by a score of 37-34 on Friday. The Saints were up 17-3 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Abbeville found their leader in sophomore Lauryn Murray, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Murray has scored all season.

Thornwell has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Abbeville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Thornwell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 54-31 defeat against Ware Shoals on the 4th. As for Abbeville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-20 loss against Belton-Honea Path on the 1st.
