2A Intermountain Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances in games played on Thursday and Friday (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Colton Lucero Turns in Season-Best Performance

On Thursday, Pagosa Springs had to settle for second even though Colton Lucero put up the best numbers he has all season. Lucero rushed for 400 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played.

This season, Lucero has averaged 23.5 receiving yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he had four rushing touchdowns. This year he is already up to 16.

Wheat Came Up Big in Montezuma-Cortez's 34-27 Victory

Tay Wheat put up the most rushing yards he's had since back in October of 2023 on Friday. He rushed for 245 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.

Salida's probably not too fond of Wheat given he always seems to get the better of them. When Wheat last faced the Spartans back in September of 2023, he rushed for 298 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry.

Dyson Woodward Has Career-Day on Friday

On Friday, Alamosa got the W thanks in part to Dyson Woodward playing the best football he has all season. Woodward rushed for 228 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

Woodward must have Gunnison's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. When Woodward last faced the Cowboys back in September of 2023, he rushed for 112 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 211 yards and a touchdown.

Gunnison Gets a Boost from Buckhanan in 44-15 Loss

Gunnison was sadly handed a defeat on Friday, but Graden Buckhanan did his best to prevent it. Buckhanan turned in nothing short of a gem, rushing for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Gunnison is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6. Buckhanan and Gunnison will square off against Pagosa Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
