Soccer Game Preview: Auburn vs. George Wythe

The Auburn Eagles will head out to face off against the George Wythe Maroons at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Auburn is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Eastern Montgomery, who was ranked 21st at the time (Auburn was ranked 13th). The Eagles fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 1-0 on Monday. It was the first time this season that Auburn let down their fans at home.

Meanwhile, George Wythe kept a clean sheet against Honaker on Tuesday. They blew past the Tigers 3-0. The result was nothing new for George Wythe, who have now won three games by three goals or more so far this season.

Mason Tate and Lucas Mabry scored all three of George Wythe's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

The win made it two in a row for George Wythe and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those two matchups. As for Auburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2-1.

Auburn took their win against George Wythe in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
