Basketball Recap: Brynna Renard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lincoln Northeast over Papillion-Lavista

If Lincoln Northeast was riding high fresh off their 52-32 takedown of Omaha Northwest last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lincoln Northeast Rockets came up short against the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs on Thursday, falling 69-44. The Rockets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Monarchs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Lincoln Northeast lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brynna Renard, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 46% in the last eight games she's played. Jayla Merrill was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine boards.

Leading Papillion-LaVista to victory were Jayda Richardson and Rease Murtaugh. Richardson almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine assists, while Murtaugh went 7-for-15 to rack up 22 points. The dominant performance gave Richardson a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Fettin, who posted six points.

Lincoln Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Papillion-LaVista, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Lincoln Northeast will take on Kearney at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Papillion-LaVista does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
