Baseball Game Preview: Hopewell Vikings vs. Hampton Talbots

For the second straight game, Hopewell will face off against Hampton. The Vikings will welcome the Talbots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Hopewell nor Hampton made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Vikings were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Talbots. The match marked the Vikings' most dominant victory of the season.

David Medich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, James Gill was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Drew Donovan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hopewell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Hopewell and bumps their season record up to 4-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Hampton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.
