Volleyball Recap: Maranacook Black Bears vs. Nokomis Warriors

After flying high against Lewiston last Monday, Maranacook came back down to earth. The Maranacook Black Bears lost 3-0 to the Nokomis Warriors on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Black Bears of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2023.

While Maranacook had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.

Leading Nokomis to victory were Jayden Hood and Rayonna White. Hood had 13 digs and four aces, while White had three aces. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Hood now served four or more in the last six games she's played.

Maranacook's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Nokomis, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3.

Maranacook will head out on the road to challenge Lake Region at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nokomis, they will play host again on Wednesday to welcome Gardiner, where the match is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Gardiner will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Nokomis surely won't give up without a fight.
