Basketball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville suffered their biggest loss since December 29, 2023 on Wednesday. They lost 63-42 to the Reidsville Rams. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in Virginia, while the Rams are ranked 39th in North Carolina).

When it comes to explaining why Martinsville lost, don't look at Z. Tinsley. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 16 on his way to 26 points. Tinsley is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

It was another big night for Dionte Neal, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals for Reidsville. Neal has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 33 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendre Harrison, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

With the defeat, Martinsville broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. As for Reidsville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Martinsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-44 loss against George Washington on the 20th. As for Reidsville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-61 victory against Rockingham County on the 20th.
