Softball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Vanden's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Vanden lost to Pioneer back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Vikings blew past the Patriots 8-1. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly seven runs.

Isabella Cueva spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Vanden let Niayli Calvo and Daisy Pallares run wild. Calvo went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Pallares fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Calvo has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was KJ Horton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

Vanden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.

Vanden is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.5 runs. As for Pioneer, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-4 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanden will square off against Vacaville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Pioneer, they will take on Sacramento at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
