Basketball Recap: Manassas Park Takes a Loss

Manassas Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 75-18 loss at the hands of the James Wood Colonels. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Colonels are ranked 47th).

Josie Russell was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 15 rebounds for James Wood. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Russell has scored at least a third of James Wood's points. Another player making a difference was Maddie Shirley, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points.

Manassas Park's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for James Wood, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Manassas Park won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rock Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Manassas Park is facing Rock Ridge at the right time seeing as Rock Ridge is stuck on a four-game losing streak. James Wood will take on Liberty in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
