Recap: Purvis Tornadoes vs. Columbia Wildcats
It was a good run, but the Purvis Tornadoes unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were beaten by Columbia 56-27. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Purvis has scored all season.
Purvis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Breleigh Adkins, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Adkins hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Systren Eliza Elenus was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Purvis' loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Columbia, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Purvis will be playing at home against Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Lawrence County is ranked 165th, while Purvis is ranked 170th). As for Columbia, they will head out on the road to face off against Poplarville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Poplarville has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Columbia will arrive with four straight wins.
