Williamsville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jackson Sanders, who threw for 276 yards and five TDs on perfect 17-for-17 passing, and also rushed for 37 yards. Those 276 passing yards gave Sanders a new career-high. Matthew Miller helped out on the ground, rushing for 134 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Williamsville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Olympia came up short against Athens on Friday and fell 37-28. The Spartans gained 67 more yards on the day, but it was the Warriors that made the best use of them.
Williamsville will need to focus on slowing down Kaden Collins, one of several Olympia players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 88 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 57 yards. Jimmy Lollar was another key rusher, rushing for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Olympia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ty Olson and Brody Hish.
Williamsville's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Olympia, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Williamsville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Olympia struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 373 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Williamsville strolled past Olympia when the teams last played back in September of 2024 by a score of 27-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bullets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
