Woodrow Wilson is 8-2 against Compton since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bruins will welcome the Tarbabes at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Woodrow Wilson will bounce into Friday's game after beating Millikan, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bruins blew past the Rams 30-7 on Friday. The game was the first time the Bruins have beaten the Rams on their field since October 21, 2016.
Woodrow Wilson found their leader in sophomore Jemel Grigsby, who rushed for 120 yards and two TDs on only seven carries. Grigsby's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Kyle Harris was another key player, picking up 104 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Woodrow Wilson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Thomas Jones and Grigsby.
Compton never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cabrillo on Friday. They put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 48-27 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Tarbabes as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Trevon Fair and Micah Hawkins. Fair rushed for 198 yards and one score on only ten carries while Hawkins rushed for 117 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries.
Compton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 338 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
One reason for the win was Compton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Ameir Jones was especially locked on to Cabrillo's QB and sacked him twice. Jones has become a key player for Compton: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one sack, but 1-2 otherwise.
Woodrow Wilson's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Compton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Woodrow Wilson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Compton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 213.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Woodrow Wilson against Compton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-0 victory. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Tarbabes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
