Baseball Recap: Reading Memorial Triumphs

While Reading Memorial's win against Winchester wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets skirted past the Red & Black 2-1. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Red & Black recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Andrew Wright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Reading Memorial's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sam Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Reading Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Winchester, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.

Reading Memorial and Winchester should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Rockets will square off against Melrose at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (37 vs. 141). Meanwhile, Winchester (ranked 35th) will meet Belmont (ranked 161st) at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red & Black 3.8, the Marauders 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
