Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. South Brunswick Cougars

Hoggard has gone 10-0 against South Brunswick recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Hoggard Vikings will look to defend their home court against the South Brunswick Cougars at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hoggard has five straight wins, South Brunswick has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Friday, Hoggard needed a bit of extra time to put away West Brunswick. They managed a 66-61 victory over the Trojans. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Trojans are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hoggard relied on the efforts of Will Seward, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, and Hunter McGrath, who went 8 for 14 en route to 19 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Seward is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Locklear, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when South Brunswick took on New Hanover on Friday. South Brunswick took a blow against New Hanover, falling 81-34. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-10.

Hoggard's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. As for South Brunswick, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Hoggard took their victory against South Brunswick in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 76-50. In that match, Hoggard amassed a halftime lead of 44-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
