Softball Game Preview: Benjamin Russell Wildcats vs. Wetumpka Indians

Benjamin Russell is 1-9 against Wetumpka since May of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Benjamin Russell Wildcats will challenge the Wetumpka Indians at 6:00 p.m.

Benjamin Russell is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 11-5 to Auburn.

Arionna Ware was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. Averee Vick also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Wetumpka had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Hornets.

Lily Davenport was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Bailey Carlise was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Wetumpka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in ten consecutive games.

Wetumpka's record now sits at 14-1. As for Benjamin Russell, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Benjamin Russell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. However, it's not like Wetumpka struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Benjamin Russell might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Wetumpka in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can Benjamin Russell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
