Preview: McAllen Memorial Mustangs vs. Pioneer Diamondbacks
The McAllen Memorial Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Pioneer Diamondbacks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
McAllen Memorial has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 47-46 to McAllen. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points McAllen Memorial has scored all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Pioneer's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of McAllen.
The losing side was boosted by Julian Valdez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Edward Chavez, who scored nine points along with two steals.
McAllen Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Pioneer, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
McAllen Memorial strolled past Pioneer in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 67-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for McAllen Memorial since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
