Recap: Hawthorne Cougars vs. El Monte Lions
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Hawthorne Cougars walked away with it. They came out on top against El Monte by a score of 44-37 on Friday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Hawthorne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Bindi, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Bindi was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 66 yards. Zameere Medina also helped out with an impressive 106 receiving yards.
Despite the defeat, El Monte had strong showings from Brandon Do, who rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, and Felipe Taboada, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Hawthorne and bumps their season record up to 6-6. As for El Monte, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. El Monte also has no future games currently scheduled.
