Softball Game Preview: Valencia Jaguars vs. St. Pius X Sartans

Valencia is 2-8 against St. Pius X since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jaguars will challenge the Sartans at 3:30 p.m. Valencia will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Valencia took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Grants by a score of 19-14. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Lauren Brandt and Jaden Martinez-Flowers did most of the damage at the plate: Brandt scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Martinez-Flowers went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Martinez-Flowers has posted since back in March of 2024. Rosalyn Rael also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Pius X beat Belen 9-6 on Monday. The Sartans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jordan Chavez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubri Hooee, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

St. Pius X kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

St. Pius X's record is now 7-12. As for Valencia, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-10.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Valencia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like St. Pius X struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Valencia suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to St. Pius X when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
