Football Recap: Mesquite Comes Up Short

Mesquite extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-5. They were beaten by the Snowflake Lobos 41-13. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Despite the loss, Mesquite had strong showings from Kameron Gillie, who rushed for 54 yards and one TD, and Andrew Joiner, who picked up 79 receiving yards and one score.

Mesquite didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tristan Saldivar and Isaiah Durden.

As for Snowflake, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 34.1 points this season.

Leading Snowflake to victory were Brenner Green and Jacob LaDuke. Green gained 181 total yards and three touchdowns, while LaDuke rushed for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries. That's the most rushing yards LaDuke has posted since back in September of 2024.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mesquite will challenge rival Poston Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Snowflake is set to take on their familiar foe Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Lobos 12.2, the Titans 9.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
