League recap: Corning climbs in state rankings

Corning scaled the state rankings by moving to 472 from 560 this week, the biggest jump in Northern. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of topping Willows 20-0.

West Valley took down Turlock 28-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brady Casselman ran for 222 yards during the win.

Casselman was a passing and rushing force as the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs. Casselman's favorite target this week was Austin Hollibaugh, who caught 2 passes for 27 yards.

Casselman was a force in the backfield as West Valley bested Turlock.

Sawyer McDonald was the best wideout in the league this week as Central Valley defeated Chico. McDonald racked up 2 receptions for 60 yards. Razi Lovett helped Central Valley's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Falcons' Timmy Naylor and Kolton Naylor have proven to be a lethal combination. Naylor has thrown for 491 yards this season, while Naylor, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 15 catches for 145 yards. Austin Clark from Greg Grandell's team leads the league in rushing with 619 yards.

A big matchup in Northern this week will be when Lassen takes on Corning. The Grizzlies are currently in third, while John Studer's team is in fourth.

Central Valley and the Panthers played the most contested game in the league this week, with Central Valley eventually emerging with a 45-42 victory. Naylor threw for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
