Baseball Recap: La Joya Community Beats Cortez for Their Seventh Straight Win

La Joya Community came tearing into Saturday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cortez Colts 12-3. The Fighting Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cayson Hamrick was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, La Joya Community got a big performance out of Saul Chairez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Ivan Duran was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

La Joya Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in four consecutive games.

La Joya Community's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Cortez, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Joya Community will host Copper Canyon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Lobos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Aztecs have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Cortez, they will face off against Yuma at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
