Softball Preview: Gervais Cougars vs. Central Linn Cobras

The Gervais Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Central Linn Cobras at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Gervais knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Central Linn likes a good challenge.

Gervais can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They blew past Regis 13-3. That's two games straight that Gervais has won by exactly ten runs.

Addy McCargar was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). McCargar has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. McCargar was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ekatirina Secrist was incredible, going 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs. Camryn Rutledge was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Central Linn scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Culver out 19-18.

Central Linn let Brooklyn Winningham and Lora Johnson loose on the outfield. Winningham scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Johnson went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Jennifer Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Gervais pushed their record up to 6-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Central Linn, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.
