Basketball Recap: Atlantic Coast Starts off Right with Win over Menendez

Atlantic Coast had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Menendez Falcons with a sharp 71-48 win. For the Stingrays, this counts as revenge for the 57-53 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Joel Barnaby was a one-man wrecking crew as he shot 54% from the field on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tarik Auguste, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Abbonizio, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 13 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kareem Preston Jr., who posted seven points and six assists.

Menendez dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Atlantic Coast has already played their next contest, a 72-71 win against San Jose Prep on the 20th. As for Menendez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-57 defeat against Matanzas on the 20th.
