Softball Recap: Riverton Hawks vs. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers
Riverton had lost 14 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-17 to make it 15. They lost 25-7 to the New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers. The Hawks were not able to make up for their loss to the Vipers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Riverton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Skyler Stokes, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Jersey Mulkins was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 4-16. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's side, Addison Hopkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hopkins was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carlie Smtih was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skyler Green, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Riverton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-10 win against Hartsburg-Emden on the 5th. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they will be playing at home against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
