Basketball Recap: Jack Openshaw Key Part of Team Effort in Thunder Win

Desert Hills won the last time they faced Spanish Fork and things went their way on Saturday too. The Thunder put the hurt on the Dons with a sharp 60-38 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunder.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Desert Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Openshaw, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Openshaw's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Kolten Andrus, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

Desert Hills was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spanish Fork only posted one.

Despite the loss, Spanish Fork still got an impressive performance from Gage Christensen, who posted 16 points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Christensen now owns an excellent 41.7% three-point shooting accuracy. Jacob Johnson also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

Desert Hills now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Spanish Fork, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Coming up, Desert Hills will be playing at home against Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spanish Fork, they will host Provo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dons will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
