Basketball Recap: Avery Mcmahon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoosick Falls over Whitehall

Hoosick Falls fought the good fight in their overtime match against Whitehall on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Whitehall Railroaders. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 495th, while the Railroaders are ranked 190th).

Hoosick Falls lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Avery McMahon, who went 7 for 13 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and four steals. McMahon has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Tatum Hickey, who posted 14 points along with seven steals and five assists.

Even though they lost, Hoosick Falls was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Hoosick Falls is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12. As for Whitehall, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Hoosick Falls will be playing in front of their home fans against Cambridge at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Whitehall, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-17 victory against Argyle on the 1st.
