Baseball Recap: Poteet Takes a Loss

Poteet extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 13-9-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wilson Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on Tuesday.

As for Wilson, they pushed their record up to 15-6-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

For Wilson's part, Eli Segrest spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Segrest has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Teodoro Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Poteet will square off against Horn at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Wilson, they will challenge Seagoville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
