Basketball Recap: Shiprock Takes a Loss

Shiprock lost against Piedra Vista back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Shiprock Chieftains took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Piedra Vista Panthers.

Tyra Holyan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Piedra Vista, going 8 of 16 en route to 18 points along with six boards and three steals. Holyan's afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordis Fage, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points.

Shiprock dropped their record down to 4-8 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Piedra Vista, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Shiprock wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-30 loss against Newcomb on the 6th. As for Piedra Vista, they will take on Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
