Football Recap: Midway Panthers vs. Rouse Raiders
Midway put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against the Rouse Raiders by a score of 17-6. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while the Raiders are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midway found their leader in underclassman Lathan Whisenton, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Whisenton got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 81 yards.
Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leland Smit, who picked up 78 receiving yards and a touchdown. What's more, Smit also racked up 19 rushing yards, the mosthe's had since back in October of 2023.
Midway's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Rouse, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Midway will challenge Mansfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mansfield has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 143 points over their last three matches. As for Rouse, they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Lake Belton at 7:00 p.m. on September 27th.
