Basketball Preview: Key West Conchs vs. Sunset Knights
The Key West Conchs will face off against the Sunset Knights at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Key West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
On Friday, Key West was the victim of a rough 58-36 loss at the hands of the Cobras. While losing is never fun, Key West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while the Cobras are ranked 205th).
Despite the loss, Key West saw an underclassman step up: DeMarcus Deroche scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Deroche hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Leandro Batista, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sunset was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past the Makos 68-41 at home. The win was just what Sunset needed coming off of a 98-50 defeat in their prior contest.
Key West now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Sunset, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
