Softball Game Preview: Meridian Bobcats vs. Cobden Appleknockers

Meridian is 1-6 against Cobden since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Meridian will be playing in front of their home fans against Cobden at 4:30 p.m. Meridian has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Meridian is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Shawnee, falling 21-6.

Kiara Lane was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Jayla Meeks also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Even though they lost, Meridian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Cobden had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on Webber with a sharp 15-1 victory last Monday.

Abby Pitts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Pitts was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Franklin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Allison McGee, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Meridian's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Cobden, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
