Softball Recap: Simi Valley Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

There's no place like home for Simi Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They came out on top against the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers by a score of 11-7 on Tuesday.

Francesca Hall tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leah Ortega-Vasquez was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Victoria Abrams also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Simi Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Simi Valley pushed their record up to 13-7-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simi Valley will welcome Buena at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.33 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sierra Canyon, they will be playing at home against Louisville at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Royals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
