Softball Recap: Sullivan Comes Up Short

Sullivan extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 11-9 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Vigo Vikings. Golden Arrows fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Wednesday.

Aphtyn Earley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

As for West Vigo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Sullivan since May 8, 2018.

On West Vigo's side, Jaleigh Lindley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. Lindley has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaycee Elkins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Janelle Sullivan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Looking ahead, Sullivan is taking a road trip to square off against Gibson Southern at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for West Vigo, they will be playing at home against Edgewood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings are on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Mustangs a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
