Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. Rock Academy Warriors
The Escondido Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Rock Academy Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Escondido focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Escondido had to suffer through a rough 75-44 loss at the hands of Rancho Buena Vista. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Escondido in their matchups with Rancho Buena Vista: they've now lost three in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ryder Santos, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Maddox Mendoza, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, everything went Rock Academy's way against Orange Glen on Friday as Rock Academy made off with a 59-39 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Rock Academy.
Rock Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from David Whitley, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. The match was Whitley's third in a row with at least ten points. Jaden Hicks was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 8 rebounds.
Pacific Ridge's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Escondido's loss dropped theirs to 3-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Escondido have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rock Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 32.2 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
