Recap: Canyon Springs Cougars vs. Adelanto Saints
The Canyon Springs Cougars fell victim to the Adelanto Saints''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They suffered a rough 25-0 defeat at the hands of the Saints. While losing is never fun, Canyon Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 719th, while Adelanto is ranked 332nd).
Adelanto's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mario Smith, who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Zaki Muhammad and his 93 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Adelanto's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Canyon Springs to a paltry 36 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Adelanto's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Marquise Pacheco and Shakir Collins who racked up four sacks between them.
Canyon Springs are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 1.8 points per game. As for Adelanto, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-5.
Canyon Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Adelanto also has no future games currently scheduled.
