Softball Preview: Hale Ray Noises vs. Old Lyme Wildcats
Hale Ray is 0-10 against Old Lyme since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hale Ray Noises will head out on the road to square off against the Old Lyme Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Hale Ray got themselves on the board against Old Saybrook, but Old Saybrook never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 19-0 margin over the Rams. The win made it back-to-back victories for Hale Ray.
Lily Jahne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Jahne was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Hale Ray got a massive performance out of Julia Campbell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Fenway Jankowski was another key contributor, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and a double.
Meanwhile, Old Lyme was able to grind out a solid win over Coginchaug Regional on Monday, taking the game 7-3.
Like Hale Ray, Old Lyme also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Bayor. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Bayor was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Grace Phaneuf was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sybil Neary, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Hale Ray's record is now 2-0. As for Old Lyme, their record is now 2-0.
