Basketball Recap: John Marshall Snags 11th Win in Last 14 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only John Marshall walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 69-46 margin over the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers on Friday. The Monarchs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Rilee Storm continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 41% from the field on her way to 27 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kalyn Reese, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and five steals.

John Marshall smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Buckhannon-Upshur lost, don't look at Alyssa Abel. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 58.7% of Buckhannon-Upshur's points, marking the seventh time in a row Abel has earned more than a third of the team's points. Harley Dean was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

John Marshall is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points over those games. Buckhannon-Upshur's loss dropped their record down to 9-14.

John Marshall has already played their next matchup (against Morgantown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Buckhannon-Upshur does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
